This is the first School so far which has correctly listed ‘sex’ as a protected characteristic. Though a short while later they have changed it to gender in the same document And then I discovered their most up to date policy

Gladstone Primary School policies

Gladstone Primary also mention protected characteristics in their equality plan. Their annual equality report does contain a lot of statistical information regarding the differences between boys and girls  And the equality act and the protected characteristics appear to be important in their future planning Here is their draft sex and relationships education policy

The equalities act is prominent Sex and relationships education. Special note that, like many schools, they believe children need to be prepared for puberty. Here are some of the resources currently used.

Another equalities plan which mentions the protected characteristics Interestingly their targets include 1.  Staff and governors are aware of their statutory obligations under the Equality Act 2.  Staff and governor training combines basic training for all staff with specialist training for selected staff dependant on priorities and emerging equality issues or trends 3.  The curriculum in all year groups evidences planned teaching of equality and diversity across a range of subjects, covering all protected characteristics Their Anti-Bullying policy

Danescourt Primary have an equalities report where the equality act is prominently mentioned Their equality policy says teachers will receive training on the equality act

Coryton Primary School,policies

Unusually this school do not have many policies on their website. They do however have an equality report with one suggestion being that a female tennis player visit the school to talk about her achievement in sport. The equality act is also mentioned.

Another school claiming to be working in accordance with the equality act yet neglecting to mention thenprotected characteristic of Sex.

Bryn Hafod Primary school policies

Again, the equality act is mentioned right at the start of this school’s equality plan and yet sex is omitted in favour of ‘gender’. last updated 2013 Their Positive friendship policy (anti-bullying) also mentions identity based bullying

Bryn Deri County Primary policies

this is interesting as the equalities act is prominently mentioned in their Ethos, behaviour and artitude’s policy and again ‘sex’ is replaced with ‘gender’ which is not a protected characteristic. Last reviewed July 2018. This is mentioned again in their anti-bullying policy which also describes ‘identity based incidents’ Last updated March 2018

Birchgrove Primary school policies bullying/equality/SRE

here is the Birchgrove anti bullying policy, last reviewed in July 2017.not they mention the protected characteristics but fail to mention sex. Again, in their equalities policy (2014) the protected characteristics are noted. Here is part of their Sex and Relationships Education Policy. Again biological fact is taught. A special note should be made that menstruation is spoken of as something that effects women.
